The Final Count Down

Not just a song any more, but the story of our life. We have one week left before Aaron ships to MEPS and then to Ft. Benning. One week full of every dinner he loves, and one week full of fun-filled family nights that go WAY past bed time. After this week, Alexis and I will then begin our count down until Daddy comes home. Making a chart is this week's FHE, we already have the stickers.

Expect a few more posts during this time. Aaron won't have a lot of time and we are planning on him only writing home, not to family and friends, I will then post his letters so everyone knows how he is doing during his training.

This weekend was his last drill before Basic Training, and although I haven't heard from him yet today, I know yesterday was a lot more relaxing and laid back than his other drills have been. Yesterday they went paint balling to practice shooting and defense/offense strategies. He will have one more drill with the RSP unit in Pocatello in August after BT, and then he will spend his training weekends in Boise with the band getting ready for AIT training next summer.

Our exciting news of the week is that McKenzie is venturing out on her own, and usually gets three steps before falling. Yesterday she took almost six as she walked from one side of our kitchen to the other. It is so exciting to watch. Her favorite 'task' currently is to walk; she loves using other people's hands, but any chair that she can push will do the job.

Alexis had pre-school screening this week, we are still waiting for the results. I think she is very well, although there were some tasks that I now know that need work such as copying...she was told to build exactly what the 'teacher' did with blocks. This is not one of her strong points, she would much rather build her own. She also got to use scissors for the first time during testing, Aaron (who was her safety net and was going to the stations with her) said he was really worried because she had NEVER used scissors before and now she was supposed to cut a straight line and a curved line. Although not all of the skills she was tested for are skills she is supposed to have yet (she is only three, and the testing went up to six), it gave me some great ideas for what we can work on at home.

Aaron had his last concert on Wednesday. It was his Awards concert where he got to honor all of his seniors, outstanding students, and his boosters presidency. His bands have all greatly improved in the year, and although it is still a builder program (he lost six seniors this year), I'm sure he is going to have a great year next year.

Aaron's dad came on Friday to visit and drop off some things...it was just like Christmas. We all really enjoyed the visit; especially Alexis who loved playing board games and playing outside with Grandpa.

This was our week, hopefully next week we will get some updated pictures. Have a great week everyone...Happy Summer!
